I am a New York-based journalist who has written seventy articles about the environment and climate change.  I am also the author of No Rain in the Amazon: How South America's Climate Change Affects the Entire Planet. Last year, I retraced Charles Darwin's voyage of discovery in South America in light of climate change and other issues of historical interest.  To see an archive of my reportage, click here.

In addition to earning a doctorate in Latin American history from Oxford University, I am the author of two books on the wider region, Hugo Chávez: Oil, Politics and the Challenge to the U.S., and Revolution! South America and the Rise of the New Left.  I have spoken about many of these wide-ranging topics on the likes of CNN, the BBC and National Public Radio, to name just a few.

I have been to Ukraine four times and written more than 80 articles about the country, as well as East-West relations more generally.
